Sinopsis Buku: After launching the Enterprise for ASEAN Initiative (EAI) in October 2002, the US is actively pursuing bilateral free trade agreements with the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Indonesia. Unlike some key members of ASEAN, such as Singapore Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, who have started BFTA negotiation with the US, Indonesia is still engaged in dialogue to resolve disputes with the US under the auspices of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). It is still unclear when the US-Indonesia Free Trade Agreement (USIFTA) negotiations will take place or when the trade agreement may be implemented. This book provides critical analysis on the projected outcome of USIFTA and its implications for the well-being and livelihoods of Indonesian people. Given the asymmetrical relationship between the two countries, the analyses in this book predict that Indonesia will suffer as a result of this trade arrangement. The USIFTA does not only undermine the economy of Indonesia, but also jeopardises the democratic values to wich Indonesia subscribes. This book reflects the thoughts and concerns of Indonesian citizens about this possible trade agreement. In addition to raising awareness amongst Indonesian trade policy-makers, the material in this book can be used by Indonesian civil society groups who are acovating for a fairer deal in anv future negotiations and possible implententation of USIFTA.
